McKeown on the unknown

Bloomberg Law has US Sending More Female Attorneys to Argue at Supreme Court

  • The US government will send four female advocates to argue five cases during the Supreme Court’s December sitting, nearly doubling the number of women who have argued this term.
  • Men vastly outnumber women at the high court lectern, with female advocates in the argument lineup 13 times so far this term compared to 62 males. The disparity among attorneys of color is even greater.
USD Law School's Fall 2022 Advocate magazine (on pp. 18-19) has 'An Open Mind for the Unknown' about 9th Cir. Judge McKeown who is the school's jurist in residence. The title comes from her 2022 commencement speech, where she advised the graduates to have 'an open mind for the unknown. She says that although she's taking senior status on the court, she will still take a substantial caseload, but hopes to reduce that load over time to focus more on teaching and writing.
