The Court’s long-time Appellate Commissioner, Peter Shaw, retired as of December 31, 2020.
The Court's press release says:
We are grateful for his service and wish him all the best in his well-deserved retirement. While the court works to reassign the Commissioner’s various responsibilities to existing personnel, the court’s Director of Legal Staff, Lisa Fitzgerald, will serve as Appellate Commissioner in addition to her other responsibilities. Beginning January 11, 2021, the Court will welcome Sara Rief as the Criminal Justice Act Administrator for the Court of Appeals. Sara assumes this new position after seventeen years as a criminal defense attorney in both state and federal court. Sara has been a member of the Criminal Justice Act Panel since 2012 and has served on the Board of Governors of the California Attorneys for Criminal Justice since 2017, and has held leadership roles with both the California Lawyers Association and the California Lawyers Foundation.
