New 2020 formatting rule!

Dear Appellate Nerds,
Image result for font nerdHappy New Year! Many new appellate rules are now in effect, but -- since you're an appellate geek -- you'll definitely want to review the new formatting rules first! (Of course, if you're a true devotee, you already knew all about this rule....)
Rule 8.74. Format of electronic documents

And don't forget to bookmark the Cal Supreme Court's 2020 Calendar.

Check this out: Justice Wiley displays conciseness by starting off the year with a decision here that is essentially a one-pager and only about a dozen sentences long.

The Ninth Circuit starts off the year "right," by issuing an opinion here on standing to appeal! (Court lacks jurisdiction to hear nonparty's appeal, where nonparty substituted itself out when Jane Doe filed the first amended complaint, chose not to participate in the district court proceedings, and failed to show equities favoring hearing the appeal.) (And look who's also listed as counsel for appellant: Audra Ibarra, who was profiled in today's DJ.) See here.
