3 New 2d District Justices!

Speed is the hallmark of our new world! The 2d District's Justices page already has their names posted for all three new justices. It shows that only Divisions 3 and 7 are currently down one justice. And it seemed like Justice Rashida Adams was still making her final remarks when The Recorder posted an "Afternoon Update" about the Three Justices Elevated to Second District Court of Appeal:
The Judicial Council reported 16 vacancies throughout the state’s six appellate courts as of March 1. Monday’s confirmations, along with three more on April 7, bring that number down to 10. Gov. Gavin Newsom announced three more nominations to the courts of appeal on March 30. Confirmation hearings for those candidates have not been announced yet.

Today's DJ has 3 New Justices Confirmed to 2nd District Court of Appeal

  • "Mori, a fourth generation Japanese American whose parents were forced into internment during World War II, said she had a difficult time understanding how, as U S citizens, they could have been sent to the camps. “They told me that there was nothing their families could do about it. They did not understand the legal system or know any Japanese American lawyers and they were not in a position to be heard, and few would speak on their behalf, as there was great animosity toward people of Japanese ancestry at that time,” Mori wrote in her application to the court. “They just had to endure it. My parents’ experience is fundamental to who I am. It makes me empathetic to the powerlessness that people feel when dealing with the justice system.”"
  • "Cody, a Loyola Law School graduate, was named to the Ventura County bench in 2000 by Gov. Gray Davis. Before that she was an associate at Lemieux & O’Neill from 1994 to 2000. She was an associate and partner at the now shuttered Nordman, Cormany, Hair & Compton from 1985 to 1994. She is filling the seat created by the retirement of Justice Steven Z. Perren." Her hearing featured much discussion about sports and also included a stuffed manatee.
  • "Yale Law School graduate, Justice Rashida A. Adams, was a senior appellate attorney in the 2nd Court of Appeal before taking the bench in 2017 and is filling the void left following the retirement of Justice Halim Dhanidina." During her hearing she mentioned LACBA's Appellate Courts Section 'Appellate Court Experience' program, where high school students visiting the Court of Appeal.
Justice Adams "mentioned that there are photos of all the judges, past and present, in the hallways of the Second District in Los Angeles. She said that as an African American woman, she can't help but notice that it takes a while before a spectator will get to photos of female judges and of African American judges, but she's glad when she does see those photos." "I'm humbled and honored to join their ranks," Justice Adams said. "I thank the governor and the commission for giving me that opportunity. Every day, I will be trying to live up to their example as distinguished jurists and public servants. And to be a role model for all those who will come after me."
