Zelon joins Judicate West

Today's DJ has 2 veteran jurists join Judicate West -- Justice Laurie D. Zelon of the 2nd District Court of Appeal and Orange County Superior Court Judge Robert J. Moss became neutrals this month after about two decades on the bench.

  • Zelon intends to concentrate on handling arbitrations, private trials, special master assignments, neutral analyses, and appellate reviews, rather than mediations. She said she hopes to guide parties to solve their problems constructively. "When people receive a hearing that they perceive as fair and conducted by a true neutral, they can resolve their dispute in a lasting manner," she said.
  • Zelon said she intends to continue her involvement in efforts to expand access to legal services for people of limited means. She is a past chair of California's Access to Justice Commission and more recently co-chaired a national program on the issue. Just recently, she joined the State Bar's new Closing the Justice Gap Working Group, which plans to develop innovative models to deliver legal services to people of all income levels.
