Central staff openings at 2d DCA

The California Court of Appeal, Second Appellate District, located in Los Angeles, is accepting applications for two appellate attorney positions in the central staff department. The attorneys will work collaboratively with the managing attorney and justices in the preparation of opinions. The attorney’s duties will include reviewing appellate briefs and trial records, researching and analyzing the law, preparing initial drafts of opinions, reviewing and proofreading opinions by the justice, and performing other tasks as assigned by the justice. Excellent analytical, writing, and research skills are mandatory. Familiarity with appellate practice is preferred. For one of the two positions, experience with the criteria and procedures governing petitions for a writ of habeas corpus is also preferred, preferably in capital cases.
