The 'other' Nine

The Hill has The Women Shortlisted for the Supreme Court Before Sandra Day O'Connor. "Before any women made their way onto the nation’s highest court, there were nine who found themselves on official presidential Supreme Court shortlists going back to the 1930s." [The Hill]

Of note, numbers 3 and 8 were appellate justices from the 2d District Court of Appeal: Mildred Lillie (shortlisted by Nixon) and Joan Dempsey Klien (shortlisted by Reagan).
