Justice Liu co-authors diversity report

Today's DJ has More minorities enroll in law school, but may not become lawyers, report indicates, which notes:
Despite more minorities enrolling in law schools, the prospects for diversity in the legal profession remains murky as most of these students are entering schools with low bar exam passage rates, according to a report released Thursday by the American Bar Foundation.

During a media briefing Thursday, California Supreme Court Justice Goodwin H. Liu, a co-author of the report, said the economic effects of the pandemic could limit the number of international students and warned that smaller law schools could face shutdowns because of low enrollment.

"Higher education is not a bad option when the job market looks bleak," Liu said, acknowledging the situation could look different in a few months. "But on the other hand, the economic slowdown may lead to fewer jobs in the legal sector as had happened in the wake of the great recession. And some lower-ranked schools may see significant drops in enrollment, and some may even be forced to close."
