Earn MCLE? Check!
Modest time commitment for warm fuzzy feeling of helping some
amazing students? Check!
I’ve done both of these in years past, and the students are
really great.
1) UCLA
could use some volunteers for their Spring Moot Court Competition on Saturday,
March 7. There’s a one-hour training seminar you can attend the day
of the competition, for which one hour of MCLE is provided. You then
judge and score the students’ performances. I think signups are needed
ASAP; details will go out in the next week. The signup information can be
accessed here.

2) Loyola
could use some volunteers for first-year students’ oral argument component of
their Legal Writing and Lawyering Skills Program. I am told that if you
sign up, you will be asked whether you would like to judge on the evening of
March 24, 25 or 26. A light supper is provided in advance, and an
optional reception follows. No scoring; just feedback. For more
info, see this brochure.
(The brochure says this starts on March 23, but they apparently consolidated
the schedule and dropped that date.)
