Avoiding stress by filing early

On November 9 at noon, Appellate Defenders, Inc. will be presenting a virtual one-hour MCLE program: What's New in Division One? Justice Truc Do and Justice Martin Buchanan, the most recent judicial appointees to the Fourth Appellate District, Division One, will introduce themselves and answer some of our questions. The program is pre-approved for one hour of general MCLE credit. The program is also pre-approved for one hour of appellate specialization credit.

Law.com has 4 Justices Poised to Keep Seats on the California Supreme Court -- California voters were poised to retain all four state Supreme Court justices on the general election ballot, according to early returns Tuesday. Attorney General Rob Bonta also held a substantial lead over Republican opponent Nathan Hochman.

  • Californians voted Tuesday to retain four state Supreme Court justices and greenlighted Gov. Gavin Newsom's nomination of the first Latina justice candidate, Justice Patricia Guerrero, to replace Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye, who retired this year after more than 20 years on the bench.
  • Voters signed off on the appointment of three associate justices who were on the ballot for the first time — Justices Guerrero, Joshua Groban and Martin Jenkins — as well as Justice Goodwin Liu, whose 12-year elected term expired this year.
