We are saddened to report that Mitchell Abbott, long time member of the
California Academy of Appellate Lawyers, and a mentor and dear friend to many,
passed away yesterday afternoon at the age of 69.
Mitch practiced law his entire career spanning more than 40 years at Richards, Watson & Gershon, where he trained and mentored dozens of attorneys, including many successful appellate lawyers. Appellate lawyers and judges will recall Mitch's love of fine wine, which he generously shared at Appellate Receptions held at State Bar Annual Meetings.
Mitch is survived by his wife Mary Nielsen Abbott, son Michael Abbott, and daughter-in-law Brenda. A
memorial service to celebrate Mitch will be held, but obviously under the
circumstances nothing can be planned at the moment.
