Palestinian Groups Seek Judge’s Recusal Over Israel Trip (1) (bloomberglaw.com)
- Palestinian groups are seeking the recusal of a Ninth Circuit judge set to hear their case alleging that the US government has failed to prevent a genocide in Gaza, pointing to a trip he took to Israel earlier this year.
- In a filing late Tuesday, attorneys for the Palestinian parties said that Judge Ryan Nelson attended a trip “which was explicitly designed to influence U.S. judicial opinion regarding the legality of ongoing Israeli military action against Palestinians—a core question on appeal of this case.”
- Nelson was among 14 judges who participated in the trip to Israel in March. Twelve of the 14 were appointed by Donald Trump, and two other Ninth Circuit judges — Patrick Bumatay and Lawrence VanDyke — also attended.
