The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday refused to take up an appeal from John Eastman, a former attorney for Donald Trump, that challenges a subpoena from the U.S. House of Representatives committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot seeking his emails, with Justice Clarence Thomas taking the unusual step of recusing himself. ... Thomas gave no explanation. He has drawn criticism for previously not disqualifying himself from cases involving the 2020 election and its aftermath. His wife, conservative activist Virginia “Ginni” Thomas, was among those who urged the White House to do more to try to overturn the election results.
