New CSC: Business as Usual

Today's DJ has PJ Gilbert's column titled The Undead, which discussed his eponymous courtroom and his friend Shaq.

Also in the DJ is Justice Moore's column, Veterans issues come to family law.

And Business as usual as newly constituted high court hears first case -- Chief Justice Patricia Guerrero let colleagues take turns, didn’t dominate during first argument.

Guerrero appeared via videoconference from Sacramento, where she swore in Gov. Gavin Newsom later on Friday. Last Monday, Newsom swore in Guerrero as chief justice and Kelli Evans as an associate justice on the high court.

Guerrero began by wishing everyone a happy new year, greeting Evans, and getting down to business. Guerrero largely stayed in the background during arguments, letting attorneys and her colleagues speak, but jumping in from time to time to play the role of firm traffic cop.
