Beds proposes trial by wombat

In the Recorder, this month Beds has Still Another Modest Proposal -- “trial by wombat” was an idea whose time had come. ... if we let a groundhog decide how much winter we would get every year, why not let 12 “burrowing herbivorous marsupials” decide guilt or innocence?

The DJ has Moskovitz on Appeal, Chapter 19: "How do I prepare for oral argument?" and Chalres Kagay's Appellate Zealots column: Settling Successfully: Guidance for Crafting Proper 998 Offers.

Also, in Prepared and Persistent, the DJ profiled former C.D. Cal. Chief Magistrate Judge Suzanne Segal, now doing ADR, "who digs into disputes and won't give up." But before robing up, she focused on appeals at the U.S. Attorneys Office, and was the "office's first chief of civil appeals." The profile concludes by noting that she is married to a friend she met in preschool, 2/7's Justice John Segal.
