Interesting FRAP amendments

Well, not amendments to the Fed. Rules of Appellate Procedure (which aren't so interesting, but are at least relevant to those of us in California), but the Florida Rules of Appellate Procedure here. What's interesting is that the appellate courts in the Sunshine State now require filings in Arial or Bookman Old Style font. In California, of course, Rule 8.74 says that "Century Schoolbook is preferred." From coast to coast, fonts matter! (h/t Shannon McLin Carlyle)

In other interesting Southern Appellate news, see 4th Circuit Scraps McDermott Amicus Brief in Rare Nod to Recusal Rule
Scrapping the McDermott brief, the appeals court acted under local appellate procedure rule 29(a). The rule states that the court will strike an amicus brief if it would result in the recusal “of a member of the en banc court from a vote on whether to hear or rehear a case en banc.” It also applies to potential recusal of panel members.
