Diversifying the Appellate World

Bloomberg Law has Diversifying Appellate World Means Starting at the Beginning about The Appellate Project and various other programs. The article notes:

  • on the federal bench 23% of the 176 active judges on the U.S. Courts of Appeal are attorneys of color
  • Almost 70% of all white men on the appellate bench as of July 2020 spent time in private practice. But less than half of the 12 women of color who sit on the courts followed that path
  • More than one-third of those who took California’s first online bar exam in October were flagged for possible cheating, based on alerts sent by the test’s software, the state bar said.
  • the Bar Examiners Committee also released data showing that 15% of the roughly 5,300 test takers who responded to a post-exam survey said they encountered technical issues on test day
