Judges Judging Judges

In a two-part series called The Teflon Robe, Reuters investigates judicial misconduct across America, which includes this one-of-a-kind searchable database of state and local judges who resigned, retired or were publicly disciplined following accusations of misconduct. (The data for publicly disciplined California judges covers 2008 to 2019 and does not include any appellate justices.)

The investigation represents the first comprehensive accounting of judicial misconduct nationally. And it resonates more than ever today, as the nation grapples with holding those who oversee our criminal justice system accountable for their actions.

Part 1 is Objections Overruled: Thousands of U.S. judges who broke laws or oaths remained on the bench.

Part 2 is Emboldened by Impunity: With 'judges judging judges,' rogues on the bench have little to fear.
