Veterans Day

Honor and thank the veterans you know today! (Courts are closed today, of course. Gov's proclamation here.)

Today's DJ features veteran Justice Eileen Moore in Veterans who were civil rights heroes, which concludes: "Veterans of the United States Armed Forces helped in securing civil rights for all Americans. They believed in our country, knowing what it was capable of achieving. All of us should realize that if something important needs to be done, we probably can't go wrong if we ask a veteran to do it. Veterans deserve our tribute."

Speaking of veteran Justices, today's DJ also profiles Judge Jason Chin -- son of veteran Justice Ming Ching -- a relationship that's "not something [he] really advertise[s]." (See Work-Life Balance: Judge Jason Chin learned from his father not to discuss legal cases during family dinner.)
Chin said he’s perpetuating his father’s tradition of not talking about work when spending time together, so they don’t speak much about their jobs. But he’s open about what he’s learned from his father.
“The things I respect the most about him are his thoughtfulness, his patience, his willingness and eagerness to get to know as much about the subject that’s in front of him as possible to make the best-informed decision,” Chin explained.
At the Lectern has compiled a list of appellate-justice-veterans here.
