George Schiavelli, appellate lawyer (Horvitz & Levy from 1986–94 and Reed Smith’s Los Angeles Appellate Group from 2000–04)
Judge Schiavelli was appointed a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge in 1994. Subsequently, in 2004, he was confirmed as a judge of the United States District Court for the Central District of California. While on the state trial court, he sat by assignment in the California Court of Appeal, Second Appellate District, Division 7 and was the Presiding Judge of the superior court’s Appellate Division. While on the federal district court, Judge Schiavelli regularly sat by assignment in the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
A memorial is planned for Friday at 2 p.m. at the Casa Italiana.
