LACBA to Honor PJ Lui

Today's DJ has LA Bar to Swear In 2019-20 leaders, honor judges and attorneys about tomorrow evening's (sold-out!) event:
  • The Los Angeles County Bar Association will swear in new leadership during its annual installation ceremony Thursday evening, as well as honor longtime veteran trial lawyer Patrick M. Kelly, appellate Justice Elwood G. Lui and Los Angeles Presiding Judge Kevin C. Brazile.
  • The association's 2019-20 board of trustees is headed by President Ronald F. Brot, a former trustee who has been a member of the bar association since the 1970s, and President-elect Tamila C. Jensen, a longtime member of the trusts and estates and appellate sections of the bar.
  • Lui, the administrative presiding justice of Division 2 of the 2nd District Court of Appeal, will receive the Outstanding Jurist Award.
  • Lui has served on the bar association's appellate courts committee for over 30 years and was a founding member of the Southern California Chinese Lawyers Association. He is the prison compliance officer in federal litigation concerning the overcrowded conditions in California prisons, served as the special master of the State Bar disciplinary system on two occasions, and as interim director of the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services.
The DJ also reports Longtime Judge Martin Jenkins address Orange County Law Center Event -- "The program included a keynote speech by Martin J. Jenkins, Gov. Gavin Newsom’s judicial appointments secretary and a former federal and state appeals court judge."
