In Voice of Reason, Today's DJ profiles 9th Circuit Judge Consuelo Callahan, who "is able to find legal conclusions amenable to her ideologically diverse colleagues."

  • Callahan, in her 16th year of federal judicial service, is still active and doesn’t envision going senior any time soon. She’s “not feeling it,” the judge said, citing, like many of her colleagues, the ability to participate in the 9th Circuit’s unique en banc process as a main reason for staying.
  • “She’s a very, very pragmatic jurist with incredible street smarts,” commented 9th Circuit colleague Senior Judge Richard C. Tallman, who mentored Callahan when she joined the federal bench in 2003. “She can see through bogus arguments quickly, and she has a really good view of what’s going on in the real world,” Tallman continued. “She’s a very powerful voice of reason and a common sense application of the law.”
