Appellate tidbits

Yesterday's DJ column, Moskovitz on Appeals, had On Dissents, discussing dissenting opinions and asserting that "Dissents appear in around 1 percent of [California Court of Appeal] cases, while 9th Circuit judges dissent in more than 4 percent of their cases."

Today's DJ column Exceptionally Appealing presents Minerva Appeals, about appeals that materialize without a notice of appeal ever having been filed.

Today's appealability case of note is here, about orders that did not qualify under the death knell doctrine.

And today's SoCal appellate event of note was LACBA's Appellate Courts Section annual lunch, where Jon Steiner received the Pam Dunn Award and three justices of Division 7 performed a comedy sketch (written by Stuart Esner and David Ettinger).
