The 23rd Annual California Lawyer of the Year awards are out, and, as usual, there are notable appellate lawyers to be recognized:

• GMSR's R (Kent Richland) and Jeff Raskin for Sheppard Mullin v. J-M Manufacturing (Clarifying Attorneys' Ethical Duties and Realizing the Limits of Arbitration Law)
• Skadden's Raoul Kennedy for Mallano v. Chiang II (Stepping up in class action litigation leads to pay raises for the California judiciary)
• GDC's Dan Kolkey (California welcomes international commercial arbitrations with attorneys' work on SB766)
• Chuck Dell'ario for Regents of the U.C. v. Superior Court (Rosen) (Resolving the standard of care a school owes its students).
