RIP James Moneer
SCAN is sad to report that anti-SLAPP specialist Jim Moneer died a few months ago. Obit here. Jim ran the California SLAPP Law blog and was a pioneer in anti-SLAPP litigation and continuing education programs. Noted as an anti-SLAPP expert in many court orders and opinions (e.g., Ramona Unified Sch. Dist. v. Tsiknas (2005) 135 Cal.App.4th 510), Jim was counsel (or amicus) in many important SLAPP appeals including Soukup v. Hafif (2006) 39 Cal.4th 260, Jarrow Formulas v. LaMarche (2003) 31 Cal.4th 728, City of Cotati v. Cashman (2002) 29 Cal.4th 69, Equilon Enterprises v. Consumer Cause (2002) 29 Cal.4th 53 (amicus), and Dowling v. Zimmerman (2001) 85 Cal.App.4th 1400. His enthusiasm for all things SLAPPy will be missed by the anti-SLAPP bar.
