KFF for 8/9: Cold Turkey

The August 9 installment of Kozinski's Favorite Flicks will be the movie Cold Turkey.
Cold Turkey 1971.jpgCold Turkey is a memorable satire set during the heyday of "Big Tobacco."  As part of a public relations campaign, the villainous Valiant Tobacco Company offers $25 million to any city that manages to give up smoking "cold turkey" for an entire month.  Dick Van Dyke stars as the zealous parson who convinces the town of Eagle Rock, Iowa to go for the prize.  It promptly becomes clear that this challenge will prove harder than the town originally believed.
We'll be joined for the evening by distinguished guest Norman Lear, who directed, produced and co-wrote the film.  In addition to his many Hollywood production credits, including the beloved sitcom All in the Family, Lear is a prominent defender of the First Amendment and the founder of leading progressive advocacy group People for the American Way.
Prior to KFF, we'll offer a tour of our historic Richard H. Chambers Courthouse.  If you'd like to participate in the tour, please meet in the first floor lobby just inside the main entrance at 5:45. The tour will start promptly at 6:00 so you can finish in plenty of time to get food, drink and a good seat.
