New 9th Cir. Rules effective today & "Say cheese" SCOTUS

Today, the 9th Circuit's new rules take effect, eliminating the extra 3-days for deadlines triggered by e-service (w/o personal service) and changing the 14-days for reply briefs to 21 days. The FRAP are likely to adopt these changes too, eventually. Note that the rules don't apply to cases with existing briefing schedules! So if you were working on a reply brief, the advent of the new rules doesn't kick in to change your deadline.

Also, the official 2017 SCOTUS portrait photo has been taken, showing some new positions with the addition of Justice Gorsuch. See here.
