California's New Solicitor General

Nope, no appointment has been made yet.
But today's DJ has an interesting article that starts off:
California Attorney General Kamala Harris is revamping the role of the state's solicitor general, endowing the position with wide-ranging authority, including responsibility for arguing all of the state's cases before the U.S. Supreme Court. The change is a major shift for the office. Traditionally, the California solicitor general has rarely argued cases, and oversaw just a small portion of the state's appeals. The new solicitor general, in addition to arguing cases, will supervise a team of nine full-time lawyers who will serve as a clearinghouse for all of the state's appeals in the state and federal courts.
