On behalf of the ABA's Council of Appellate Lawyers, the only national bench-bar organization devoted to appellate advocacy, I am writing to invite you to attend the tenth annual Appellate Judges Education Institute (AJEI) Summit in San Diego this November. The AJEI Summit attracts the very best speakers on topics of interest to appellate practitioners, and is the one appellate event this year that you definitely should not miss. Speakers this year will include several prominent federal and state appellate judges, including Chief Justice of California Tani Cantil-Sakauye. Other notable confirmed speakers will include United States Solicitor General Donald B. Verrilli, Jr. and Dean Erwin Chemerinsky of the UC Irvine School of Law.
The Summit will be held at the Marriott Marquis in San Diego on November 14-17, 2013. I have attached the "save-the-date" flyer for the Summit. In addition to the fantastic programs, there will many social events (breakfasts, lunches, cocktail parties, a Summit dinner, dine-around dinners), which will provide plentiful opportunities for mixing with appellate judges and lawyers from around the country. Each year, approximately 100 appellate judges, 100 appellate attorneys, and 75 appellate staff attorneys attend the Summit.
I have also attached information regarding sponsorship of the summit (which includes one or more complimentary registrations). We would be delighted if your firm would join in sponsoring the Summit. Firm sponsorship permits appellate judges, who would otherwise not be able to attend the Summit, to attend on scholarship. Summit sponsors will be listed on the AJEI website and on the Summit brochure. The brochure will be mailed to every state and federal appellate judge in the country, to appellate staff attorneys, to appellate practitioners around the country, and to every law school in the nation. The deadline for submitting sponsorships is August 2, so if you would like to sponsor, please submit your form without delay.
