After more than 20 years of service on the court, 4/3 Presiding Justice David G. Sills is retiring effective June 1. His time as PJ capped a career dedicated to public service -- as a judge, Irvine mayor, and Marine Corps captain.He is looking forward to traveling the world with his wife, Susan. We wish them all the best. And we look forward to seeing them in October at the presentation of the David G. Sills Award for Appellate Excellence.
It is my unofficial understanding the Chief Justice will appoint an acting presiding justice (Cal. Const., art. VI, s 3) until the Governor fills the vacancy created by PJ Sills' retirement (Cal. Const., art. VI, s 16(d)(2)).
