Ken Starr to Baylor

Pepperdine Law School Dean Kenneth Starr is leaving the school to become the next president of Baylor University.

Appellate lawyer Ben Shatz of Manatt laments "Dean Starr's departure to Texas" as "a loss for the Southern California Appellate Community."

Ben continues:  "[Dean Starr's] presence and willingness to speak at local bar events has been much appreciated (e.g., he was the keynote speaker for the LACBA Appellate Courts Committee lunch program with the Justices of the California Supreme Court and 2d District Court of Appeal in 2008) and his ability to attract stellar guest speakers -- especially U.S. Supreme Court Justices -- for programs at Pepperdine Law School has been a tremendous boost to the local appellate scene. With any luck he will return frequently to Southern California."

Pepperdine is starting a national search for a replacement.
